Summary:
An American oil-rig roughneck from Oklahoma (Matt Damon) travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter, who is in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit. Cast:
Matt Damon, Camille Cottin, and Abigail Breslin
Nelson’s Review:
This movie takes inspiration from Amanda Knox’s life story, an American studying abroad. Matt Damon is an out-of-work father whose daughter is serving time in a French prison for murder. Damon, who plays Bill, makes it his mission to prove his daughter’s innocence no matter what it takes. Some may enjoy it. On the other hand, I felt Stillwater is slow-paced and dull at times. Also, the storyline and characters lack plenty of substance. About the only time I would recommend this movie would be if you’re having a hard time falling asleep at night.
I give Stillwater on Showtime 1 out of 5 stars.
